Despite having had a couple of emptying out sessions in the last few months I still find myself with more clothes than I need. More clothes than I wear. Clothes that don't express me. After a Personal Shopper experience at Debenhams last week I came out with a clearer idea of how to dress for my body shape {when I'm not having a bloated day that is... which, y'know, is most days} as well as a funky new blazer which I would never have chosen but that I now love.
Kathleen is doing a six month raw denim challenge which inspired her to rethink her wardrobe and minimise it. She now owns forty pieces... shoes included! I don't think I'll get that far but paring down my wardrobe and having key pieces that work with everything really appeals to me.
My current count is eighty-eight pieces of clothing. This does not include shoes. Or pjs. Or holiday clothes. Or undies. Or coats. See? Not quite going to reach Kathleen's level of minimisation. Over the previous month or two I have already given away about six carrier bags worth. If you average each of those at eight items of clothing each we're adding on another forty-eight items. So in say, January, I owned one hundred and thirty-five items of clothing. For a girl who doesn't even shop much that seems a lot! I think it also demonstrates that a) I hold on to things for dear life b) I haven't necessarily been buying quality and c) I do shop on the spur of the moment or when I'm feeling low. Not good choices.
My plan moving forward is to actually wear every single one of those eighty eight pieces of clothing and see how they make me feel as well as how they look. I have a feeling that the three hippy maxi skirts that I own are totally unnecessary... that's not who I am any more, and hey, we're lucky if we get three days a year hot enough to wear them, ha ha!
Also I own seventeen dresses. Seventeen. I live in jeans. Every single day. I know I talked about wearing dresses daily here but that's not my current reality and even then I wouldn't need that many!
What are your wardrobe statistics like?

PS. Thanks to those of you that left comments on yesterday's post... it looks as though gluten could well be the culprit :(

I'm pretty sure I've got more than 88 pieces. I must have at least 20 t-shirts, 20 dresses, 6 skirts, 25 jumpers/cardigans/hoodies, three pairs of jeans, few pairs of shorts... There must be other stuff lurking around too. I think I need to have a spring clean! xx
Oh geez. I don't even wanna count my clothing... I really, truly believe in having a big wardrobe HOWEVER only -only- if I actually WEAR everything... often. I also live in jeans. I have one pair. Plus one pair that's damaged beyond repair and needs to be tossed. Most of my clothes are so old, and hole-y and I would really LOVE to just toss 'em (or give them to my mother-in-law for fabric scraps) and than replace them with proper fitting, non-hole-y clothes that I actually love.
